Process Server First Assignment Checklist

A first-assignment checklist for process servers: review the packet, confirm the route, record each attempt, and report the result.

Use this list before you leave, on each attempt, and when you close the visit. It is field practice for PPS Serve work, not court-rule training. Read the packet before you drive Open every page. Match the name on the papers to the name on the assignment. Match the address, including the unit or suite. Read the deadline and any written instructions from the office. Look for prohibited actions in those instructions: places you must not enter, people you must not contact, and papers you must not leave unless told to. If a page is missing or a name does not match, stop and tell the office before you go. Documents complete and in order Name as it appears on the papers Street, unit, and city as authorized Deadline and any time window Written instructions and anything you are not to do Confirm the route and access before departure Know how you will get there and how you will identify the building. If the file mentions a gate, call box, leasing office, or posted hours, read those notes before you start the car. You are not expected to invent a better address. You are expected to use the one you were given and to say so if it cannot be found. Record every attempt Write the date, time, full address, what you did, and how the visit ended. If you spoke with someone, record the name they gave or a short description if they declined a name. The attempt documentation checklist is the daily format. This page is the first-assignment pass: do not skip a visit because it felt uneventful. An empty porch still needs a note. Report completed service and unsuccessful attempts If you completed service, say who accepted, where, and when. If you did not, say what you observed and why the visit ended. Send the note the same day. Approved servers enter the record in the Field Agent portal. Applicants do not get portal access by filling out this checklist. Apply first. Approval is not automatic. Does this checklist replace local court rules? No. Follow the papers and the written instructions for that assignment. This page is how PPS Serve expects a first visit to be packed and recorded. What if I am unsure whether I can leave papers? Do not guess. Record what you found and ask the office before you leave papers or try a method that is not in the instructions.
