What Paralegals Should Include With a Service Request

A paralegal checklist for process serving requests: documents, captions, addresses, access notes, and deadlines so the file can move.

Counsel needs the papers served. You need a request that does not come back for missing pages. Use this list when you pack the file. What to pull before you upload Match the upload to the caption. If two people are named, two addresses or a clear shared-unit note belong in the request. If only some pages are to be served, say which ones. The full set of pages to be served Each defendant name as it appears on the papers The authorized address with unit or suite Workplace, agent, or alternate address, labeled The deadline counsel is actually working toward Gate, desk, or hours notes from prior attempts Notes that save a phone call A one-line access note is enough: third shift, rear entrance, ask for the office manager. Do not send a theory of the case. Send facts the server can use at the door. If counsel is still deciding the address Wait until you have an authorized location, or send the best current address and say it may be updated. Field work follows the written address, not a later hallway conversation. Where this sits in the firm path Submit a request for the live matter. If your office wants recurring access, use law firm onboarding. Paralegals who need their own access path can also use paralegal onboarding. Neither onboarding form files a service request. Can I submit for several defendants in one request? Yes, when you pair each name with an address. See the multiple defendants guide if the caption is crowded. Do I need the original wet-ink papers? Send a clear copy of every page counsel wants served. Intake will tell you if an original or extra set is required for that file.
