Bad Address: Next Steps
When a service address is wrong, vacant, or blocked, here is what to send next so PPS Serve can keep the file moving.
A bad address is a common delay, not the end of the file. Send what you know so the next attempt has a real place to go. What a bad address looks like in the field The server may find a vacant unit, a wrong building, a gate with no access, a business that never heard of the person, or a house that does not match the name on the papers. Those facts belong in the attempt notes. They are not a conclusion about the lawsuit. What to send after the first failed attempt Do not wait for a perfect skip-trace package if you already have a better lead. Send the next usable address and say why you believe it is current. A second address — home, work, or last known — with the unit number Workplace name and hours, if the first attempt was residential Vehicle, gate, or building notes from the first attempt log Any forwarding information your office already has Whether counsel wants another attempt at the same address at a different time When skip-trace support helps If you have no second address, skip-trace support can look for a better one. That work is confirmed at intake. It does not replace your written instructions, and it does not guarantee a completed serve. What not to do Do not ask the server to invent a new address. Do not treat a neighbor comment as a legal finding. Send the next authorized address in writing so the file stays clean. Will PPS Serve keep trying the same vacant address forever? No. Attempts are documented and confirmed at intake. If the address is vacant or wrong, send a new address or ask about skip-trace support. Can I change the address after I submit? Yes. Send the updated address and any access notes. Field work follows the address you authorize in writing.
